Whole-house water filtration in Tahiti

Papeete and its surroundings

Your tap water, do you really trust it?

From the main supply, it smells like chlorine. In cisterns, water stagnates and becomes contaminated over time. Ultimately, we have all developed habits to avoid drinking from the tap. FiltraHome is installed on your home's water inlet and filters everything that comes in, whether from the main supply or stored water, without electricity or chemicals.

What you notice

Three signs well-known in the fenua

None of these signs constitutes a diagnosis. But when one of them happens every day, it means your water deserves a closer look.

Sign No. 1

It smells like chlorine

You smell it before you even drink. Chlorine is there to make the water supply safe; it's normal and useful—but no one wants to taste it in their glass, coffee, or shower.

Sign No. 2

Packs are piling up

Bottles in the trunk every time you shop, packs in the garage, plastic to take out every week. It’s an expense, it’s heavy to carry, and it’s a sign that you no longer drink from your tap.
Sign No. 3

The stored water has turned

Water waiting in a cistern changes: it becomes cloudy, develops a taste, and changes color. The longer it stagnates, the further it drifts from the quality it had when filled.

These observations do not replace medical advice or water analysis. To find out the quality of the water distributed in your municipality, the Environmental Health Center of the Health Department publishes the results of the health inspection annually on service-public.pf.

Water in Polynesia

Here, it all depends on where your water comes from

In the Papeete urban area, the distributed water is treated and monitored. Elsewhere, and sometimes within the same municipality, people rely on cisterns: stored water that sits waiting to be consumed. Two situations, two different problems.

62%

of the Polynesian population was supplied with drinking water in 2024. In the Windward Islands, this rate rises to 69%, and only ten municipalities provide drinking water throughout their entire territory.

🧪

From the supply, the chlorine

To deliver safe water to your tap, it is disinfected. This protects the network, but it’s also what you smell in your glass. Activated carbon removes this taste at your home, after the meter.

⏳

In cisterns, the stagnation

Stored water is stagnant water. It does not arrive disinfected in the tank, and it becomes contaminated over time, both by external elements and by the stagnation itself.

🛠

And the final meter

Even if it leaves the plant in perfect condition, the water then travels through the grid and then through your own pipes. Filtering at the house inlet means taking action on that final meter.

Using a cistern? We measure before and after.

Stored water is not main supply water: it does not arrive disinfected in the tank, it stagnates, and it becomes contaminated through contact with external elements. That is why Hanavai installs an appropriate pre-filtration system upstream of the machine, and performs an analysis of your water before and after installation to verify the result on your specific system. The figures above apply to laboratory-tested water: your own source's quality is verified at your home.

How it works

From your request to your first shower

No heavy renovation, no construction work that drags on. The machine is connected to the main water supply, downstream of the meter or at the tank outlet.

1

You describe your situation

Two minutes for the form: your municipality, your water source, and the daily inconveniences you face.

2

Hanavai calls you back

They check your setup, pressure, and water inlet, and tell you which model is a match. For cisterns, they take a sample.
3

Quote, installation, and verification

A clear proposal, with machine and installation detailed. Then, the installation process, and for cistern-stored water, a control analysis after commissioning.

Frequently asked questions

What we're asked here in the islands

How much does it cost exactly?

The FiltraHome Box Mini is 149,000 XPF incl. tax and the FiltraHome Box is 499,900 XPF incl. tax. Installation and connection are charged additionally, as they depend on your setup: location, pressure, pipe length, and whether or not you have a tank. Hanavai will provide you with a total quote after reviewing your configuration.

I am on a tank; does it work?

Yes, it's possible, and it's actually a common request here. Hanavai installs appropriate pre-filtration upstream of the machine, then performs a water analysis before and after installation to verify the results for your specific setup. Stored water is not disinfected when entering the tank and becomes contaminated as it sits; if your water source requires it, an additional disinfection stage may be recommended. This is exactly what the analysis helps to determine.

I already have a UV lamp; is this redundant?

No, both perform different tasks. A UV lamp inactivates microorganisms but removes nothing: not PFAS, nor pesticides, nor metals, nor suspended solids, nor taste. 0.1-micron filtration physically retains these substances. In many installations, the two complement each other.

Does it remove the taste of chlorine?

Yes. Activated carbon removes residual chlorine and with it the taste and odor, right at the point of entry for your home. The public network remains disinfected up to your meter, as it should be; it is only inside your home that the taste disappears.

Does it remove limescale?

No, it is not a water softener. The machine intentionally retains calcium and magnesium and focuses on PFAS, pesticides, microplastics, and heavy metals, while removing taste and odors.

Do I need a plumber to install it?

The machine connects to the main water supply, downstream of the meter or at the tank outlet. Hanavai handles the installation with their teams based in Papeete.

How often do I need to change the filter?

Approximately every 6 months, depending on your water quality and consumption. With heavily loaded water or stored water, the interval may be shorter: Hanavai will specify this after the analysis.

Which municipalities do you serve?

Hanavai is based in Papeete and serves Tahiti. For other islands, please indicate this in the form: they will let you know what is possible and the expected timelines.
